THE TELEGRAPH – “BELMOND HOTEL SPLENDIDO”

Belmont Hotel Splendido – by Nicky Swallow – PORTOFINO (GENOA), AUGUST 2018 – THE TELEGRAPH – Full article here

As is usual at the Belmond hotels, the exceptional old-school service comes with bags of charm; many staff members have worked here for years including GM Ermes de Megni. Names are remembered and all whims catered for; a request for a safety pin was dealt with in triplicate within minutes. No wonder there is a high percentage of repeat guests.

This is a resort hotel to all intents and purposes and you could quite happily stay put for days with everything you need on site: a fabulous salt-water infinity pool, fine spa, two restaurants and beautiful gardens. Portofino is a five-minute walk away down a pretty, shaded footpath; there is a complimentary shuttle bus to help with the slog back up again.

Trips into the mountains to visit wine, olive oil and cheese-producers and excursions to the Cinque Terre or lovely Portovenere can be arranged, or guests can bag the hotel’s 36-ft boat for a sunset champagne cruise. Equally romantic is a private dinner at the Portofino lighthouse with magnificent views over the Golfo di Tigullio. Dog-lovers note that their pets will not only be accepted but also given special monogrammed bathrobes; there are dogs menus and massages too.
