The other face of Portofino: from the recovery of the abandoned land comes the fable of “La Portofinese”

Portofino is a place that needs no introduction. An open-air museum where tourism is the spearhead of a place that attracts people from all over the world. But there are those who managed to see beyond the postcards and polaroids, identifying in Portofino a territory capable of actively expressing their own peculiarities. These are the guys of La Portofinese, an agricultural association based in Mulino del Gassetta in Portofino and composed entirely of locals; their goal is to revive the famous Promontory, making it live and express to its fullest potential. The idea is simple, but at the same time very brave and innovative: recovering abandoned land, resuming the cultivation of the past and bringing agriculture and animals back to a territory that has always lived with the land and the sea. So then La Portofinese leads you to discover a hidden Portofino, that of its products: beer and honey. It will then be possible to get lost in the vineyards of the Eco-Farm, look closely at the bee-hives and taste exclusive products with a view of the beautiful olive trees in guided tours lasting about three hours, then move to the ancient Mulino del Gassetta landmark of the Valle dei Mulini, which has taken on life as a refreshment, information point and museum center of the Park of Portofino. To actively partecipate, instead, it will be possible to take advantage of the workshops for the production of pesto mortar and corzetti pasta, in the meantime tasting the honey produced on Portofino’s Mount and the craft beer of the “sea hop”, typical of the area; for more adventurous, the advice is to get to the most extreme point of the promontory, since the effort will be rewarded by the presence of the Portofino Lighthouse, transformed into a lounge bar where you can have an unforgettable aperitif in front of nothing but the sea. Finally, the Portofinese organizes the “Dinner under the stars” at the Mulino del Gassetta, an indispensable opportunity for night relaxation under the sky of Portofino, where every Saturday evening it will be possible to taste typical dishes of the Ligurian tradition, letting yourself be carried away by the poetry of the place. The rest of the activities are organized by reservations.

It’s natural, therefore, to understand how La Portofinese has managed to obtain the prestigious Quality Made brand, which enhances the “made in” artisan connotation and makes explicit the concept of quality of the offer proposed by each company. The new cross-border brand of sustainability and cultural identity (created by the S.MAR.TIC project, of which Coop Itinera Progetti e Ricerche is leader, within the INTERREG Italy-France “Maritime” Program 2014-2020) links 73 companies and associations from the five regions of Sardinia, Liguria, Tuscany, VAR (France) and Corsica, under the aegies of sustainable tourism.
